Cost - Magnum 9000 Winch Installation

A winch for your Jeep is an upgrade that will not get used on a day-to-day basis, however, when it is necessary, you will be glad that you spent the money and time to get one and install it properly on your Jeep.

I did some research on winches and finally agreed on a WARN knock off that had the same specs but didn't have the WARN name. From what I was doing with the Jeep, this was a good starting point. I wasn't going to use it that much, I didn't care about the line speed or length being slightly less then that of its brethren, so I went with the Magnum 9000. This is now called the Tabor 9K, but they are both the same. Hardware is included in the Jeep except for mounting the controller box on the winch if you plan on putting it there. I ended up getting some radiator hose type clamps to accomplish this and it worked out great.

The install is very straightforward and requires some basic hand tools. There are no hidden costs with this installation. I did however need the use of some wire ties as well as a crimper to lengthen the ground cable that runs to the motor of the winch.

Conclusions

The total time should be around 2 hours all said and done. That being said, I spent some time trying to get the front bumper installed along with the winch, and winch mounting plate. This finagling, grinding, fitting and what not took some extra time.

As you can see, there was no cost offset on this project, so it is what it is. You will need a mounting plate to mount the winch to and then the winch to the frame rails/cross member. Keep in mind that you could use an extra set of hands to help put this in position since it is heavy and awkward for one person. A strap or jack could also be used if you don't have anyone else to help you.

All said and done can be had for around $675.00 or less depending on what you purchase. I opted for the Heavy-Duty integrated type style of mounting plate from tkhfab. I got the front bumper from the same place as well as the D-ring tabs. Getting them all from the same place ensured me that they would all work together. It took a little longer to get, but it was well worth the wait.
