Cost - Obtain Tools

Most of us have tools. These tools are great for household projects, but more then likely won't stand up to the pounding rebuilding a Jeep will entail. The Jeep rebuild process is one that requires larger, heavy tools and even sometimes tools that use air or high-powered electricity. Below is a list of tools that were acquired during the process and the approximate costs that were spent to get them.

Getting tools second hand, at swap meets, or in the local classified ads is a great way in saving money, but remember, you usually get what you pay for. If you invest in high quality tools with a good replacement warranty, you will be in good shape in case they break. If not, the cost of the replacement comes straight out of your pocket.

Conclusions

This is what was the acquisition cost for rebuilding a Jeep in a one-car garage by a person that didn't have a ton of tools to start out with. I had some tools, but really didn't have the quality and type of tools necessary for a complete tear down and rebuild of a Jeep.

As I said before, you can circumvent a lot of these costs by being creative and getting tools from different sources or even borrowing tools. I wanted to make sure I had all the tools necessary if I had to redo any part of the Jeep or if I did another one, which I ended up doing. Remember this is a lifestyle and a very addictive one at that.

The total time was calculated at the amount of time searching on the internet, running back and forth in the truck to Home Depot, the machine shop, the tool shop, and Sears respectively. This would have been great to have it all in the garage so it wouldn't have been necessary to interrupt work and run out and get all this stuff one at a time as needed. But hindsight is 20/20 and you can't always anticipate everything.
