Cost - GRANT 4x4 Rear Swing-Out Bumper Installation

After driving the Jeep around for about a year, it was decided that more room was needed in the rear of the Jeep. CJ-5's are notorious for not having a lot of room and one way to increase this I thought was to take the spare tire out of the back seat area and put it on a swing-out tire carrier, thus increasing the room in the back.

I researched the Internet for good possible candidates and I found a lot of these on the market. Being a small business owner myself, I opted to help out a small business by buying a quality built swing-out tire carrier. They all seem to come in around the $400-500.00 range so I settled on Grant4x4 and ordered up the rear bumper.

The parts were ordered up from Grant 4x4 as they were found to be the best built ones I could find on the Internet. In a couple of weeks the parts arrived.

Cost - Offset

Since the old bumper went on the "Yellow" project Jeep, there is no cost that can be offset in this build-up. If you have old parts that come off the Jeep during this build-up, you can sell them to offset the cost.

Total Cost: $590.00

Conclusions

The total time should be around 4 hours all said and done. That being said, I spent some time trying to get the bumper exactly centered and cut the bolts to fit up against the tailgate and the softtop.

As you can see, I opted for the D-ring's for the D-ring tabs that came as part of the bumper, which increased the cost of the project. It is up to you and what you decide. I also opted for the Jerry can setup so I can carry more fuel if I need it.
