(08/16/09) It was incredibly hot today. I went through three shirts, my pregnant wife that is due any day was outside in a bikini trying to cool off... it was a crazy day. So, what happened? Well, the transfer case is done, the driver side door is stripped down, sanded, primed, and painted, and finally the door hinges were painted as well. Just need to get some clear on the door and we can put it back together.

I started out the day with the most fun part of a Dana 300 rebuild and that is covering your hands with Vaseline, so you can get 48 bearings lined up, so you can get them in the intermediate gear and then wrestle it into place where it belongs. After which, you just slide in a shaft and all is good. Well, not exactly. I had to ream out the hole that you see in the picture... and it should have been done before I started as there were little shavings I had to tape up so they didn't get in the case. Fun times were had by all!

Moving on, I though, hey, here is a great idea, lets take apart a door today in the 95+ degree weather. It was hot, it was humid, and now the door is done, but my hands are killing me. For some reason, this thing did not want to give up its parts. Everything was a chore. The good news is that I will clear it tomorrow night and maybe on Tuesday get it back together. That would be great! After that, I can start on the passenger side door.

(08/18/09) It is progressing down to the last thing to do, and that is to finish up the driver side door and then get to work on the passenger side door. After that, it is a matter of getting the rig here and finishing everything up.

(08/23/09) It is getting towards the end of the line. The Jeep is really almost finally done!!! I have had bits and pieces of time to get out there and work on it, so I am happy to say that the driver side door is done and the passenger side door is mostly done. It still needs a bit more sanding, then one more coat of paint and then clear coat.

For whatever reason, the passenger side door was in rough shape. I had to repair it the best I could, but all in all, it really needs more attention then I can give it right now. These have to get done and quickly too as my wife is due any day now and the doors, the hard top, the glove box, and the transfer case is going to be needed in a couple weeks, and I am sure I won't have that much time to get to it.

(08/26/09) For many months now I wondered when this day would get here... and I think it is here. The doors are done... mostly. The passenger side is completely done and works great... I greased everything up, very smooth. The driver side would not unlock for some reason, so I took it all apart, found the issue, and mostly got it back together. Now both lock, unlock, open from the inside, open from the outside. They all work as they should. Remember to test them before putting them back together. Also, run the window up and down to make sure there is no interference!

(09/23/09) WE ARE DONE! Curtis came up over the weekend and we installed the new transfer case, the doors, the hard top, the glove box, and finished it up with the CB install. Basically the transfer case had to be taken out, all the new components swapped over and then put back in. This is not a quick, easy, or painless task. It took a few hours to do, we ran into a few snags here and there, but we finally made it all work out. He took off around 5 pm and is headed out to Moab in a week. Good luck and safe trip!
